Escape Festival 2025, A Journey Through Chaos, Nature, and Design
I don't remember exactly where I saw the listing for Escape Festival 2025. But when I jumped on a discovery call with the organizers, and realized I already knew two of the workshop leaders, I knew this was where I needed to be. I booked a hotel in the picturesque village of Aínsa, in the heart of the Pyrenees. And that's how my journey to Escape Festival began, a journey that turned out to be far more than a festival. It became a new beginning. What is Escape Festival? The event ran October 2, 4, 2025 in Aínsa, Spain. An intimate creative gathering of just 30 participants, spread over three days, with one central theme: the intersection of design, creativity, and nature. No conference halls. No slide decks. The mountains, the trees, and the mountain air were all part of the experience. The festival was structured around three themes, one per day: Day 1, Chaos. We arrived as strangers. The opening sessions took place in the medieval old town of Aínsa, with interactive activities like "Nature Serious Play" where nature wasn't just backdrop, it was a collaborator. The day ended with a local wine tasting at a nearby vineyard: earth, vines, stone, and story. Day 2, Nature. Workshops pulled us outside to listen. "Reading Nature's Signs" and "4D Mapping, Designing the Invisible" reframed how we observe systems. The afternoon question: What would nature do? Day 3, Design. Back to roots, mind, hands, material. Sessions on graphic design by hand and art-and-nature experiences. A closing ceremony with local food, conversation, music, and the quiet satisfaction of a journey completed. Why does this kind of escape matter? When we leave our routines, no decks, no Zoom calls, no schedules, something different happens. The trails, the stones, the air become thinking partners. Building something new, whether in a studio, a career, or a life, doesn't only happen at a desk. It also happens when you listen, walk, ask, and allow yourself to simply be. This is the first in a series of posts about the festival. Next up: how Day 2, Nature, taught me to hear systems, and why reconnection is at the core of the design I believe in.
